W A S H I N G T O N

In October of 2006, We spent a day in Washington D.C., before staying in Pennsylvania for the week. We took the Metro in to town and walked along the mall area. We did not go inside the Washington Monument, but we stood outside it.

It was a beautiful day, but I was expecting it to be colder, so we were dressed a little warm for all of the walking we did.

It is really amazing how many different sites are so close together. In only a couple of hours, we saw the Washington Monument, the World War II Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. We also saw the Capital building and the White House from a distance. We walked about 4 miles in the few hours that we were there.

The Lincoln Memorial Statue is 19 feet high by 19 feet wide. The Gettysburg Adress is inscribed in one of the walls and his second inaugural speech is inscribed in another; complete with a misspelling of the word future to Euture. Sounds like a pretty expensive typo.

In Pennsylvania, we drove up north to Wellesburo, to look at the Autumn colors, since we don't see them in Arizona. We went to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and saw every color imaginable. I would say it was pretty much the peak time to go.
